Abstract

This study focused in analyzing the gender oppression and liberal feminism values experienced by women characters in Enola Holmes 2 movie. The aims of this study were: (1) To identify the gender oppression through verbal and nonverbal expression experienced by women characters (Enola, Sarah, Edith, Eudoria, Mira Troy, and Female Factory Workers) depicted in Enola Holmes 2 movie, (2) To identify the liberal feminism values through verbal and non-verbal expression experienced by women characters (Enola, Sarah, Edith, Eudoria, Mira Troy, and Female Factory Workers) showed in Enola Holmes 2 movie. The method applied in this analysis was descriptive qualitative method. This study applied the theory of liberal feminism proposed by Mary Wollstonecraft (1999) and the theory of gender oppression proposed by Iris Marion Young. The results of this study showed that the women characters in Enola Holmes 2 movie experienced the gender oppression through verbal expression in the form of speaking that is done directly from conversation and non-verbal expression in the form of facial expression and kinesics experienced by women characters such as, women being considered weak, unworthy of getting position, and unsuitable to do masculine jobs. In addition, they were fighting for equal rights that show about liberal feminism values through verbal expression in the form of speaking that is done directly from conversation and non-verbal expression in the form of artifactual and kinesics such as, getting an education and going on strike in order to get decent rights as women.
