Abstract
Developing the teaching media by modifying, it is needed in teaching English especially in reading comprehension. This study modified the spinlope media to teach the students in reading comprehension. Based on the needs analysis, the media modified within students’ and teacher’s statements. The respondents of this study are eleventh graders at SMA Patriot Peterongan consist of 16 students. This research is Design-Based Research on Hannafin and Pack's Theory, which has three phases, namely needs analysis, stages of design and develop and implementation phase. The study was the first needs analysis conducted by interviewing English teachers and giving questionnaires to students. The second phase, has designed spinlope media, at this stage by preparing material for making Spinlope which covers several sectors. Spinlope must be validated by experts before implementation. The results of the questionnaire showed that all students were interested in innovative media and could improve reading comprehension skills, as fourteen of the sixteen students answered yes and only two answered no. Therefore, it can be concluded that students are helped to learn reading comprehension using Spinlope media. Keywords: Teaching Reading Comprehension, Spinlope “spinning envelope”
