Abstract

This study primarily investigates students' learning motivations and examine their willingness to communicate in English at schools X, Y, and Z used quantitative method. In this study a sample size of 148 students from three different schools were involved, ensuring a diverse representation. The data gathered using a questionnaire were analysed statistically using SPSS. The findings of the research indicate that students' motivation to learn English was moderate, based on the students‘ responses to the Likert scale questionnaire. Furthermore, the Spearman rank correlation test reveals a strong correlation between students' motivation and their willingness to communicate, ranging from 0.51 to 0.75. In other words, students' motivation plays a substantial role in shaping their willingness to communicate effectively in the English language. Understanding students' learning motivation and its influence on willingness to communicate has practical implications for language teachers, curriculum developers and policy makers. By considering and addressing student motivation in English language teaching, stakeholders can create an environment that leading to improved language learning outcomes. By doing so, Regulation No. 5 Article 9 paragraph 3c of 2022, which outlines the competency xvi standards expected of graduates in Indonesia can be realized.
