Abstract

The purpose of the study is to describe speech act found in the main character and explain how the character applied the directive speech act in Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness movie based on the theory that proposed by Yule. This study used descriptive qualitative method and documentation of the movie as the instrument. The study focused on directive utterances on the main character as data. The result of the study found four types of directive speech act in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness movie. They are commanding, ordering, requesting, and suggesting. The study reveals 50 utterances of directive speech act; ordering 17 data, commanding 16 data, requesting 12 data, and suggesting 5 data. From the 50 utterances, ordering was the most utterances found in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness movie. Based on the data obtained from the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness movie, it shows that the main character “Doctor Strange” does have full strength to fight his enemies and more powerful character than the others.
