Abstract

This current study concerned with the postcolonial analysis on the contents of a 2013 curriculum English textbook. The main focuses of this study were (1) identifying the postcolonial constructs that exist in the textbook, and (2) analyzing and describing how the postcolonial constructs presented in the textbook. This study was a descriptive qualitative study. The subject of this study was an English textbook titled „Bahasa Inggris revised edition 2016 for tenth grade students of senior high school‟. The data were collected through content analysis technique. The results obtained were as follows. First, two postcolonial constructs exist in the textbook. They are superiority of the West and diaspora. The former shows the greatness of the West in various aspects; tourism places, invention of technology and folklore. The latter is shown by the story of B.J. Habibie who studied, worked and achieved such successful life in Germany and then came back to build his homeland Indonesia. Second, the postcolonial constructs found are presented in the form of descriptive, narrative, recount text and interactional text (interview). All the texts are adapted from western websites or made from materials in the websites. Key words: postcolonial analysis, 2013 curriculum English textbook, superiority of the west, diaspora
