The purpose of this study was to find out their frequency of occurrence and to find out the causes of stude nts errors in constructing news item text which based on Richard’s theory. The method used in this study was descriptive qualitative. This method was used to analyze types of errors and causes of student errors. The subject of this study was X-C class which consisted of 21 students. The texts that studied in this research were only those which contained five errors or more. The result of the errors analysis showed that students committed error into four types: omission, addition, misinformation, and ordering. From the frequency of each error types, misinformation was the error which most frequently produced by the students. It took 72 of the total errors. Moreover, 14 errors fell into omission and 3 errors fell into ordering; whereas, for addition, it only took 2 error. They made errors that were caused by language L1 interference and overgeneraliza tion because they still didn’t understand the structure and the form of regular and irregular verb.
