Abstract

This research was conducted to know the students’ listening proficiency in answering listening questions of recount text and the causes of students’ difficulties in answering listening questions of recount texts at the first grade of Islamic senior high school Kalimasada Jombang. This research used descriptive quantitative method. The respondents were 26 students of X-IPA 1 The data were collected through listening test and questionnaire. The students listening proficiency of recount text still low it known from students’ mark. There were three causes of students’ difficulties in answering listening questions of recount text. The quality of recorder material, unfamiliar vocabulary, length and speed of vocabulary. There were 66% students said that the quality of recorder materials was not good. And most of students reasons the voice was buzzing. it was due to the unfamiliar vocabulary. There were 85% students said they found many unfamiliar vocabularies in listening recount text. And the result was about length and speed of listening. There were 77% students said the listening so long and speed until the lost concentration to answering listening questions of recount text.
