Reported speeches reproduce someone’s word without changing the meaning. Reported speeches can be called indirect speech because reported speech did not use a quotation mark instead uses ‘that’ as conjunction when restating what the others had said. This current study focused on the errors made by the students in constructing reported speeches. The analysis was focused on how the errors occurred in “statement” type of reported speech. This study applied descriptive qualitative approach. The respondents of this study were 9 of eleventh year students (XI IPS) of MA Midanutta’lim. The data were collected through a test as an instrument. The result of the study shows that there were two types of errors made by students. They were omission and misformation. There were 54 errors that can be categorized as misformation (e.g. he told that you are a beautiful girl, they said that you will worked in this office next week, she said that they eated noodle together, she said that he is her son) and 24 errors that can be categorized as omission (e.g. She said that I stayed in a hotel yesterday). Keyword: error analysis, reported speeches
