Abstract

This study used Design-Based Research (DBR) to modify an Islamic animation video. It was developed by adapting the design model proposed by Akker, et al (2013). There are three phases in this model: Preliminary Study, Development Phase, and Assessment Phase. To get the data, the researcher used interview and questionnaire. The identification of needs showed that there were some students needs in learning vocabulary. Based on these needs, then the researcher formulated the design of the video. The result shows that the students needed interesting media for learning vocabulary. The assessment from the expert showed good responses. The modification video is good to be used as teaching speaking because in this design consisted of some vocabulary which could make the students feel joyful learning vocabulary.
