Writing is one of the basic skills must be possessed by the students. Writing has its difficulties, especially for students, because writing must combine some elements, such as contents and the body of paragraph writing. Hence, a teacher must find effective ways to facilitate students in writing. One of them is by using media. To help students write, a teacher in SMAN Jogoroto used a medium that was the Fishbone diagram. Fishbone diagram is a visualization tool to classify several potential causes and effects of a problem. The method used in this study was qualitative and it took 5 students as the participants. To gain data, this study used observation and used purposive sampling. The results of this study revealed that even though they made some mistakes, they could make an essay systematically. From the 5 samples taken, most of them did not fulfil the body of the paragraph of the essay. However, they could make good content. It showed that this media helped them to find the causes of a problem. Besides, it also helped students to write more orderly and systematically, and it helped the students to create good content in an essay. Keywords: Fishbone diagram, writing, cause-effect paragraph
