Abstract

Many Indonesian students had difficulties in pronouncing English consonant that do not exist in Bahasa Indonesia more specifically the sounds of ʃ, ð, dʒ, θ, and ʒ sounds. This study focused on how to design a teaching media based on students’ pronunciation difficulties. The teaching media to develop was in form of Happy Stick. It was developed by adapting the Hannafin & Peck model which has three steps: Needs analysis, product design, and development and implementation. This current research was done at Muchosy Effective Course. The result showed that the students’ difficulties in pronunciation were mainly concerned with the pronunciation of, ʃ, ð, dʒ, θ, and ʒ sounds. Based on the need analysis, the Happy Sticard game was created to facilitate the students to learn pronunciation in joyful way with an interesting media. The products designed were then finally tested or implemented to a group of students consisting of seven students to see their reliability and validity. Happy Sticard game was 90% proper to be used as the media of teaching pronunciation. The implementation of the Happy Sticard game showed the students’ responded that Happy Sticard Game was Very interesting with percentage 92.8%.
