Abstract

A good rater reliability is one of important factors to achieved a better result of scoring . This research aimed to know the two English teachers’ inter-rater reliability by having them scored the same students text writing. The teachers taught at the same grade, both of them taught 11 year students of SMA Negri Bareng. The teachers scored the students’ text writing by using an analytical assessment consist of five aspects of writing, and they were given the scoring guideline by the researcher. This research showed that the inter-rater reliability of eleventh grade English teachers’ at SMA Negri Bareng Jombang in scoring the students’ text writing was having a low inter-rater reliability. It was proven by the result of Cohen Kappa coefficient in SPSS 22. The result for the total score calculation showed 0.036 values. It can be said that the English teachers has a low inter-rater reliability as the value have to be above 0.60 in order to be admitted that the teachers were reliable. Also calculated for each aspects of writing, the value for each aspects of writing were mostly under 0,40 where it is also indicates a low inter-rater reliability level.
