Abstract

This study discusses the word formation processes which focused on local brands using English. The purpose of this study was to describe how the local brands using English are constructed morphologically and to analyze and explain the meaning of local brands using English. This study used descriptive qualitative method to analyze the word formation processes and to describe the meaning of local brands using English based on O’Grady’s theory. The data were 40 local brands using English: 20 local brands of food and 20 local brands of beverage. In this study, the data are taken from internet sites. There were 40 internet sites as source of the data. Based on the findings, there were 7 word formation processes occurred on the local brands. They were compounding, blending, inflection and compounding, inflection and clipping, clipping and compounding, clipping and onomatopoeia, and compounding + onomatopoeia + inflection.
