Abstract

This research was conducted in order to improve the students’ listening skill using Audio-lingual Method through phonetic symbol cards at MTs Plus Darul Ulum Jombang. This study used Classroom Action Research (CAR) as the method of research. This research consisted of one cycle and it consisted of four steps, they were: planning, action, observation,and reflection.The cycle was conducted in two meetings. To collect and analyze the data, the research used the information from observation and achivement test. Thus, the result of this research showed that using Audio-lingual method through phonetic symbol cards can improve their listening skill. The students’ responses showed that they actively participated in listening class. Meanwhile, it was known that there were 30 students of 40 students who achived the passing grade, 75. The percentage of students’ achivement test met the target of this research success that was 75% of the students got score ≥ 75. From this result, it is concluded that the implementation of audio-lingual method through phonetic symbol cards can improve the students’ listening skill.
