Abstract

In studying English , students should master four language skills they are listening, speaking, reading and writing. Besides, they also should learned language components such as grammar, vocabulary, and pronounciation. Grammar is description of the structure of a language and the way which units, such as words and phrases are combined to produce sentences. However, there were some problem faced by the teachers in teaching grmmar of simple past at junior high school. One of the problems in learning English grammar of simple past covered the using verb and the using form of verbal and nominal in simple past tense. To solve the problem, the researcher used snakes and ladder game. This research used classroom action research by model of Kemmis and Mc. Taggart. This research was done by two cycle. Each cycle included planning, acting, observation and reflection. The target of mean score was 75 that was based on the KKM (minimum passing score). The result of mean score in cycle I was 73.23 and the result of mean score in cycle II was 87.94. It can be concluded that there was an improvement of the mean score from cycle I to cycle II mean that the use of snake and ladder game can improve the students simple past.
