Abstract

This study discussed the types of metaphor with a focus on the characters’ utterances on Cruella de Vil movie (2021). The method used in this study is the descriptive-qualitative method because the purpose of this study is to identify and explain the types of metaphors in movie objects. The aims of this study are: (1) to identify the types of metaphor found in characters’ utterances on Cruella de Vil movie (2021), (2) to explain how the types of metaphor applied in characters' utterances on Cruella de Vil movie (2021). It is a semantic approach using the theory of metaphor proposed by Lakoff & Johnson (2003) state that there are 3 types of metaphor. They are structural metaphor, orientational metaphor, and ontological metaphor. Orientational metaphor is the most widely used type of metaphor to determine data in this study. This study revealed 89 utterances of metaphor, they are structural metaphor 16 data, orientational metaphor 63 data, ontological metaphor (a. Container metaphor 6 data, b. personification 4 data). Based on the data obtained from the Cruella de Vil movie (2021), it was shown that all the characters in the Cruella de Vil movie used utterances of metaphor, and Cruella, as the main character, is the one who used utterances of metaphor more often in various situations than other characters, such as when Cruella and the team make plans to defeat the Baroness.
