Abstract

This is a study of addressing terms used by main characters in play entitled Death of A Salesman. The study applies sociolinguistics approach. This study is aimed to find the kinds of addressing terms used by main characters and factors which do influence the choice of addressing terms by main characters. This is a qualitative approach. The data (the dialogue between main characters) were collected from the play entitled Death of A Salesman. There are three types of addressing terms from main characters analyzed. The analysis focused on the addressing terms used by main characters in play. The result of the study shows that main characters use three types of addressing terms. They are First Name (FN), pet names and kinship term. The pet names consist of pet names preceded by possessive adjective and pet names only.
