Abstract

This study was conducted to know the students’ improvement and the effect of chants media strategy in improving the students’ achievement in vocabulary at seventh grade of MTs Plus Darul Ulum Peterongan Jombang. This study was expected to provide relevant knowledge about the teaching of English, especially on vocabulary, at junior high school level by implementing particular strategy. It was useful to increase the student ability about English vocabulary. This study is related to the result of preliminary study showed that the students had difficulty on vocabulary. They are also lack of vocabulary, did not care to increase their vocabulary; were too lazy; had many bad reasons; and were easy to be bored in memorizing some vocabularies. The research design that was used in this study was Classroom Action Research (CAR) to improve the quality of the learning process and aimed solve the problem at the seventh grade. The CAR was done based on Stephen Kemmis’s design and the researcher used observation and test as the instruments of this research. The research conducted in one cycle and the cycle has planning, implementing, observing and reflecting. The students’ achievement in teaching vocabulary by using chants media in this cycle, it could be seen from the improvement of the students result. It showed that, there were 98% from 30 students improvement that the students were reached 75 as the Minimum Criteria of Success. The result of this research has shown that the implementation of chants media in teaching and learning process could improve the students’ achievement in vocabulary and the students activity. The students involvement are in terms of active in answering the question and learning process with good respond, enthusiastic and interested with the media, the students are singing together, the students are enthusiastic in telling some expression and concluding the material.
