Implicature means something which has implied meaning in conversation. Conversational implicature always demands listeners to find out meaning that is not uttered by speaker directly. This study was about conversational implicature focusing on the utterances uttered by main character namely Elizabeth Bennet in Pride and Prejudice novel by Jane Austen. This study used pragmatics approach and the purposes of the study were: (1) to describe the types of conversational implicature commonly found in the main ch aracter‘s utterances, (2) to explain the intended meaning of the main character‘s utterances. This study applied descriptive qualitative method. The source of data were Pride and Prejudice Novel and the data themselves focused on Elizabeth‘s utterances. Elizabeth was the main character in this novel. There were 57 utterances taken as the data. Those utterences were analyzed with conversational implicature theory proposed by George Yule (1996). The result of this study showed that there were 30 data (52%) of generalized conversational implicature and 27 data (48%) of particularized conversational implicature applied by the main character in Pride and Prejudice novel by Jane Austen. This study found that generalized conversational implicature was the dominant type appeared than particularized conversational implicature, because in Pride and Prejudice novel, Elizabeth was the main character that had prejudice and pride personality. Later on, she talked to other characters that had different point of view. Also Elizabeth uttered her conversation in lots of places which supported where and to whom she spoke using either generalized conversational implicature or particularized conversational implicature. Hence generalized conversational implicature does not need specific context and background knowledge instead of particularized conversational implicature that has to find the implied meaning of Elizabeth‘s utterances.
