Scientific Approach is a scientific way in learning process which uses five components/steps such as observing, questioning, experimenting, associating and communicating/ networking (Permendikbud, 2013). This study focused on investigating the way of the English teacher designed teaching reading activities based on scientific approach in lesson plan. The method used in this study was descriptive qualitative research. The object of this research was the three lesson plans in the first semester of eleventh grade of SMA Perak Jombang. The data were collected from observation checklist. The result of this research showed that the teaching reading lesson plans designed by the teacher commonly corresponded with the scientific approach. The implementation of scientific approach in teaching reading in the three lesson plans was covered well. The activities of reading developed were integrated with other skills (writing and speaking). In other words, the lesson plans designed by the English teacher contained many activities that were appropriate for applying scientific approach in first lesson plan. However, there are two lesson plans that the activities were inappropriate. They are the activity of associating stage in second lesson plan and the activity of experimenting stage in third lesson plan. Keywords: Scientific Approach, Lesson Plan, Teaching Reading.
