Abstract
This research aims to analyse the collocations found in videos uploaded by Naila Farhana on her YouTube channel. The main objectives are to identify the most dominant types of collocations used and to explain how these collocations are applied in her English language content. The study adopts Benson and Ilson’s theory of collocation, which categorizes collocations into two main types: lexical collocations (which include verb+noun, ajective+noun, noun+verb, adverb+adjective and adverb+verb) and grammatical collocations (which includes noun+ preposition, noun+to-infinitive, noun+that-clause, preposition+noun, adjective+preposition, adjective+to-infinitive, adjective+that-clause and 19 verb pattern). This research used a qualitative descriptive method, data were collected from three videos entitled Feeling Inferior Speaking to Native Speakers?, When You Stop to Keep Going…, and How to Speak English Spontaneously in Meeting. The findings show a total of 56 collocations, consisting of 31 lexical collocations (56%) and 25 grammatical collocations (44%). The most frequent lexical pattern was adjective + noun (23 data), while the most common grammatical patterns were noun + that clause and 19 verb patterns. These results indicate that English learning content on YouTube may enrich source of natural language input, providing valuable examples of collocations for learners to acquire authentic and fluent English. The application of collocations in the videos is contextualized through storytelling, explanations, and usage examples, which help viewers understand and internalize natural English structures. The implication of this study suggests that the use of collocations in digital English learning content, as demonstrated by Naila Farhana, can serve as an effective linguistic input for enhancing learners’ fluency and accuracy.
