Abstract

This study is Translation of Figurative Language in the English Al-Qur'an Translation of Surah Asy-Syuara by Dr. Shehnaz Shaikh and Ms. Kausar Khatri to identify the verses containing figurative language contained in the English translation of the Al-Qur'an and the application of the meaning of each figurative language based on the theory proposed by Perrine. This study also discusses the translation of the AlQur'an into English based on Eugene Nida's equivalence theory, in this translation theory the researcher also identifies the application of translation techniques based on Molina and Albir, and provides the accuracy of translation proposed by Nababan. And this research uses descriptive qualitative method by doing translation approach. The results of this study found 28 verses containing figurative language. Of the 28 verses, metaphor is the most common figurative language found because metaphors in this surah provide an artistic dimension and help bring the stories of the Prophets to life, making them more interesting and memorable. In addition to finding 28 verses containing figurative language, this study also provides translation techniques used for each figurative language found, there are 66 translation techniques of figurative language found in surah Ash-Syuara', and the established equivalent technique is the most common technique found in this surah, because this technique maintains the same or similar meaning to the original language, and respects the sacred and authoritative character of the original text. From the 66 techniques found, there is a percentage of the accuracy of the quality of translation, the majority of which is 98.5% have accurate translation quality and 1.5% have less accurate translation quality. Based on the data obtained from the Al-Qur'an Surah Asy-Syuara', this surah explains the story of the prophets and the destruction of those who did not follow their teachings ordered by Allah SWT which concerns Tawheed, the inevitability of the apocalypse, the justification of revelation, and threats against the disobedient. In this surah is also very easy for readers and listeners to understand. Keywords : Translation, Al-Qur’an Surah Asy-Syuara’, Figurative Language, Tafsir Al-Misbah
