Abstract

Reading materials should be well designed based on the formulated learning objective. It should also be able to assist students to learn reading materials. Instructional analysis helps the teacher to identify the learning activity and specific learning indicators. In this case, the teacher needs a supporting learning materials in teaching reading activity to the learning objective achieved. Thus, designing reading materials essentially needed. Its was to design reading materials for twelveth year students based on instructional analysis. This research was conducted through Design Based Research as proposed by Akker et.al (2013) consist of the preliminary research, designing, and assessment. The instruments of the research were observation and questionnaires. The data from the instructional analysis were inappropriate activities in the teacher's lesson plan and the data from the questionnaire were the expert's evaluation and the teacher's assessment. After the reading materials was designed, the results showed that the reading materials was very good based on the achievement criteria and according to learning activities that can later be applied by the teacher for teaching reading.
