This study concerned with the teacher’s strategies during the learning process. The main focuses of this research on how the teacher created meaningful learning within contextual teaching and learning especially using the REACT strategy. The method of this research was qualitative. The subject of this research was the teacher who teaches at SMP Terpadu Al-Chodidjah and teaches contextual teaching and learning. The data were collected by classroom observation during learning activities and interview the teacher. The result of this research showed that the teacher used some strategies to make meaningful learning through contextual teaching and learning. In using contextual teaching and learning, this study focused on the strategy of REACT (Relating, Experiencing, Applying, Cooperating, and Transferring). However, one strategy of REACT was not used by the teacher namely experiencing. In implementation of contextual teaching and learning applied by the teacher applied included the following activities: (1) Giving leading question: to mention kinds of text (which is in Indonesian lesson), the definition and generic structure of narrative text, (2) Asking to the students to mention the example of legend story, (3) Relating the moral value of the text into daily life (during present the result of discussion), (4) Dividing the students in pears and asking to them to find the characters, place, generic structure and moral value of narrative text, (5) Asking to the students to present the result, (6) Asking to the students to conclude the massage or moral value of the text, and (7) Relating the moral value of the text into daily live. Then, to make the learning process became meaningful learning, the teacher applied four aspects of meaningful learning. The aim of this research to create meaningful learning through four aspects of meaningful learning, that following: activeness, authentic, constructive, and cooperative.
