The students often make errors in producing English especially in constructing the if-clause sentences. The errors in grammar may occur in constructing if-clause sentences. Therefore it is not rare when EFL learners write freely in constructing if-clause sentences. The purpose of this study was to find out the errors commonly made by the students and the causes of errors in constructing if-clause sentences for the 9th grade. The design of this study was descriptive qualitative. The respondents were chosen based on the characteristics required (purposive sampling). The result of this research showed that there were three types of error commonly made by the students in constructing if-clause. They were errors of misformation, omission, and addition. It was also discovered that the causes of these difficulties in the theory of errors were caused by the phenomenon of overgeneralization. For the implication of the findings on the teaching was that the teacher could give group discussion and communicative grammar strategy to the students on the most common aspects of error in constructing if-clause sentences. Keywords: If-clause, Error Analysis, Overgeneralization
