Abstract

The research objectives were to the teacher's difficulties and teacher's self-reflection in the implementation of HOTS. This research used qualitative research to identify what the difficulties and how the teacher‟s reflections toward the difficulties of HOTS. To get the data, the researcher used interview and questionnaire. The result showed that the teacher has three categories and fifth subcategories of teacher‟s problems are presented in this section. The categories are: (1) Problems in the implementation of the analyzing stage, this category has got the following subcategories (a) The analyzing stage was not implemented in the beginning stage (2) Problems in the implementation of the evaluating stage, this category has got the following subcategories (a) The students‟ lack of English material in implementing HOTS (b) The students spend time to translate (3) Problems in the implementation of creating stage, this category has got the following subcategories (a) The students spend time to practice role-play (b) The students‟ lack of courage and interest. The categories of teacher's reflections, they were: (1) Mastering and developing the learning materials or topics (2) Having or application good lesson plan (3) Started lesson with simple questions. (4) Mixing English and Indonesian questions (5) Using various learning and teaching sources (6) Be aware of students' conditions (7) Running well-planned teaching methods. In general, the application of HOTS is very important to applied the skills itself during learning process. By using HOTS could make the students to critical thinking, creative thinking, and solve the problem appropriate with the HOTS Stages. Reflections in the difficulties in implementing HOTS by the teacher will greatly affect the students‟ activeness and really helped teacher to improve the learning.
