Abstract

Vocabulary mastery is important when learning a foreign language. In the effort to master vocabulary, everyone has a learning style tendency to receive and process information to learn best and gain better understanding. The use of learning styles to vocabulary mastery shown in Akeelah and the Bee movie. The objectives of this study were to identify and describe the learning styles applied to vocabulary mastery in Akeelah and The Bee Movie. The research was descriptive qualitative research. The data were got from Akeelah‟s activities. The data were collected through identification and classification of Akeelah‟s activities in the movie, which contain of learning styles used observation sheet. Based on the analysis showed that Akeelah applied eleven of twenty one characteristic of learning styles. Akeelah tendency learning style was kinesthetic because most dominant appears in the movie. This was shown like playing outside class, following teacher instruction, touching everything, writing about lesson, and setting up experiment. However, she also used the other learning styles to increase and support her to mastery vocabulary. Hence, understanding learning styles is important for both of learners and educators to create a better learning Keywords : Vocabulary Mastery, Learning Style, Akeelah And The Bee Movie.
