Abstract

Digital media is any media which depends on electronic devices for its creation, distribution, view, and storage. As taking benefits from what digital media provide the opportunities, students are supposed to easily access learning materials through their phone or computer. It can provide learning resources for students. Lack of electronic may make the teaching and learning process The teacher did not have adequate teaching material resources for teaching speaking, the students can't use it. Because resources are limited then the book is designed for speaking. This current research was conducted to design a teaching medium for teaching speaking on congratulating and complimenting for grade X. The Akker et al. (2013) which is one of the systematic instructional design models consisting of three phases: Preliminary Research; Design Phase; and Assessment Phase (p.30). Based on interview with the teacher, the needs could be identified as follow: there was no appropriate media used in teaching speaking, the books used not sufficient for students to practice, e-bank can be applied in the class, speaking was needed how to express for others based on the topic of congratulating and complimenting, media can used offline, and provide 20 dialogues and 50 more exercise practice for e-bank, and 20 question for quiz. After getting information about the needs, the product was designed and developed based on them. After the prototype was created it was then validated by an expert. In general, the expert’s evaluation was concerned with: the grammatical error and adding more phonetic symbols. Consider the coherences between the main menu of practices and quiz. The final stage was done through an assessment by the teacher (the end user of the product). After getting teacher’s evaluation, the prototype was assessed: the media was good to implementation (teaching and learning process), students will enjoy the learning happily, nice and worth application, the media can used everywhere and every time, and also the media help the teacher in teaching speaking. The final product looked like the following: the e-bank of dialogues was interested media for teaching speaking. The students can use the e-bank to practice more. And the e-bank was innovative media in teaching speaking. Keywords: Digital media, Teaching speaking, E-bank.
