Abstract

This study was carried out to improve the students’ English vocabulary mastery using Guessing Game Media in the seventh grade students of SMPIT Al-Uswah Tuban in academic year 2014-2015. The subjects of this study were consisted of 27 students. The researcher used Classroom Action Research (CAR) method. The classroom action research design applied in this study was a collaborative classroom action research. It meant that the writer collaborated with the English teacher of SMPIT Al-Uswah Tuban as an observer and collaborator. This study was conducted following Lewin model with the following procedures of the action research: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The study was carried out in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of two meetings. The data were gathered in this study through interview, observation guide and test. The result of the study showed that there was an improvement of the students’ vocabulary. Most of the students gradually gained good scores at the end of each cycle. It can be seen that the students passing the students’ minimum passing grade (KKM) increased from 73.08% in cycle 1 to 92.30% in cycle 2. The score students’ minimum passing grade of English subject was 80. In addition, there was a positive response from the English teacher about implementing the action. In conclusion Guessing Game could improve students’ vocabulary. Key words: Vocabulary mastery, Guessing Game
