Abstract

To have a good interaction in the classroom, the teacher needs to give some questions for the students. It is one of the effective ways to interact with them. In a classroom context, giving question happened as a process of teaching and learning. The aims of this study is to identify types and function of teachers’ questions in English Foreign Language (EFL) classroom activity. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The study was conducted to answer two questions. They are types of question asked by the teacher and the function of the questions in EFL classroom interaction at SMAN Bareng. Data were collected through observation during the teaching and learning process and interview with the teacher. After analyzing the data, it can be seen that there were 3 types of questions found. There were procedural question, convergent or display question and divergent or referential question. The procedural question consist of 4 questions. The convergent or display question consist of 22 questions. The divergent or referential question consist of 7 questions. Based on the analysis, it can be said that convergent or display question is the type of question mostly asked by the teacher. Moreover, this activity can invites a good interaction in EFL classroom at SMAN Bareng. Key words: Teachers’ question, EFL, Classroom Interaction.
