Abstract

This research was a literary criticism, which revealed Aborigines misery in Aboriginal poems by Paul Buttigieg. The purpose of this research was intended to find out how far Aboriginal poems portrayed Aborigines misery. To achieve the purpose, the analysis used mimetic approach. It concerned to find out similarity between literary work and reality. This research focused on the Aborigines misery that included racial discrimination and genocide. This research used descriptive qualitative to describe the portrayal of Aborigine misery in Aboriginal poems by Paul Buttigieg. The main data were taken from poems, Aboriginal poem, that could be lines that supported the problem of statement. Then, the secondary data were the data that supported the main data. They contained the information that portraits Aboriginal life, especially racial discrimination and genocide. In analyzing the study focused on how far Aborigines misery happened since European colonization came to Australia. In the discussion, the research discussed Racial Discrimination and Genocide. There were two kinds of racial discrimination, namely Racial Discrimination on Children’s on The Land Right and Racial Discrimination on Children’s Education. For genocide there was destroy of certain tribe. There were many kind ways used by European colonization to destroy Aborigine, such as killing member of Aborigine, forced assimilation, and disease. The Aborigines misery in the poem had the similar description as in the reality. Finally, using the mimetic approach, it concluded that Aboriginal poems was covered well about the life of Aborigine, especially in racial discrimination and genocide Key Words: Aborigines, Misery, Genocide, Racial Discrimination
